Introducing: a new series of Tropical prints and cards!
Visiting the stunning David Hockney exhibition at the Tate a couple of months ago, I was so inspired by the vibrant hues of his paintings that I felt the need to create some new colourful work. Back at the studio I launched into action with my brush and ink, drawing semi-imaginary tropical garden scenes, and dreaming of heavy skies and luscious greenery during an otherwise chilly spring.
Once I was happy with my drawings, I coloured the images digitally and printed them on archival cotton etching paper.
Birds of Paradise and big sculptural leaves are the order of the day, along with deep saturated colour. At least we can imagine being in a tropical garden when we’re still wearing our coats in April!
I hope you enjoyed this little taster of the collection. And I really hope you can come and see the work at Artists Open Houses in Brighton… There is a total of 6 print designs in 2 sizes, joining me at Junkyard Dogs on Edward Street and 21a Brunswick Square. The Brighton Etsy show at Junkyard Dogs opens tonight with Fringe performances and general merriment! See the Brighton Etsy blog for participating artists and further details.
The prints are still available in person only, so get yourself down there! The Brighton Etsy show is open every day throughout May, and 21a Brunswick Square will be open at weekends from 6th-28th May.
There are matching greeting cards to be discovered too. Newsletter subscribers will be the first to know, and given a special offer when the range hits my Etsy shop – you can sign up here!
